Daily Sculpture Work
July 25 - September 10
The seven sculptors at the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium (SISS), will be working on their sculptures. The public is invited and welcomed to visit and watch the artists as they each create a granite or basalt sculpture. The Symposium takes place on the campus of the Schoodic Education and Research Center (SERC) in the Schoodic section of Acadia Park, on the mainland in the town of Winter Harbor.
Meet-the-Artists Reception
Thursday August 2, 7pm
An Opening Event and Meet-the-Artists wine and cheese reception will take place at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. Hammond Hall is the home of Schoodic Arts for All, a major collaborator with the Symposium.
Potluck Supper & Reception
Sunday August 19, 5pm
A reception and potluck supper will be held at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor. This will be another opportunity for the public to meet the Symposium artists and to visit historic Hammond Hall, home of Schoodic Arts for All.
Closing Events
Monday September 10
The SISS Closing Event will be held at the site of the Symposium on the SERC campus in the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park. School children will sing a sampling of folk songs from the countries of the participating artists. The completed sculptures will be available for viewing. They will be installed in their host communities during the fall of 2007.
Installation of the completed sculptures will take place in the participating communities (Ellsworth, Milbridge, Southwest Harbor, Steuben, Sullivan and Winter Harbor) during the fall of 2007. The dates will be announced in local newspapers. |
