Closing Reception

The Closing Ceremony was held on Monday, September 10, 2007, at the sculpture site. The sculptures were on display during the ceremony and for several weeks after. They have since been moved to their permanent homes in Ellsworth, Milbridge, Southwest Harbor, Steuben, Sullivan, Winter Harbor, and the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park.

The Closing Ceremony began with local elementary school children singing folk songs. The sculptors participating in the Symposium were Dominika Griesgraber from Poland, Jo Kley from Germany. Don Justin Meserve from Round Pond, Maine, Ian Newberry from Sweden, Roy Patterson from Gray, Maine, Jesse Salisbury from Steuben, Maine, and Narihiro Uemura from Japan.

The sculptors were introduced and described their creative process. They also talked about their experiences here in Maine. We appreciate their contributions to our lives and communities and look forward to visiting their sculptures for many years to come.
