Welcome to the 2007 Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium
July 25 through September 10, 2007
The seven sculptures created in the first Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium have been installed in communities in Maine's Hancock and Washington counties. Ellsworth, Winter Harbor, Sullivan, Southwest Harbor, Steuben and Milbridge, along with the SERC campus now are home to seven magnificent sculptures.
The map below details the sculpture's locations. Click on the letters next to each town to see a photo of the finished piece and to obtain driving directions.

The finished sculptures will be as different as the artists themselves.
The Symposium committee would like to thank the artists and all the volunteers who made the 2007 Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium a scuccess. The six-week Symposium took place at the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park this past summer. For more information about Symposium activities, please visit the links at left. A map with the directions to the sculptures permanent sites will be coming soon.
The Schoodic international Sculpture Symposium Closing Reception
The Closing Ceremony was held on Monday, September 10, 2007, at the sculpture site. The sculptures were on display during the ceremony and for several weeks after. They have since been moved to their permanent homes in Ellsworth, Milbridge, Southwest Harbor, Steuben, Sullivan, Winter Harbor, and the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park. (A map to the sites is coming soon)
The Closing Ceremony began with local elementary school children singing folk songs. The sculptors participating in the Symposium were Dominika Griesgraber from Poland, Jo Kley from Germany. Don Justin Meserve from Round Pond, Maine, Ian Newberry from Sweden, Roy Patterson from Gray, Maine, Jesse Salisbury from Steuben, Maine, and Narihiro Uemura from Japan.
The sculptors were introduced and described their creative process. They also talked about their experiences here in Maine. We appreciate their contributions to our lives and communities and look forward to visiting their sculptures for many years to come.
Thank You!
